In addition to music I love your acting ability. You’ve appeared in many roles, and always did a great job. Are you still acting?
Oh yeah, I just shot the movie “Order of Redemption” which is gbusta rhymesoing to be out in ’09. It is an action/drama. I’m the villain you will love to hate. I’m doing a lot of fucked up shit in this movie. I’m doing some real foul shit and a lot of shit that I wouldn’t co-sign on a real life level.
Does the bad guy role fit you good?
I believe I can tackle just about any role, but I definitely like playing the bad guy.
Who else is acting in “Order of Redemption”?
Armond Assante, and Tom Berenger.
You were fantastic in the movie “Finding Forrester”. What was it like being in a movie with such a cinematic legend like Sean Connery?
It was good! At the end of the day it was somebody that we all grew up watching his work. My family watched him, and it was an honor for me to be able to be in the presence of his guidance. He not only influenced the way to try to step it up as an actor in scenes with him, but he also gives you a good understanding how to conduct yourself on these movie sets.
Another classic films I like was “Higher Learning”. What was the atmosphere like filming that movie?
Everything was dope! It was a movie, so nobody is acting like that when the director says cut. Everybody was hanging out and learning a lot from each other. Ice Cube was recording his music in his movie trailer, and I think the Nas album “It was Written” was just coming out, and everybody was talking about it. Omar Epps was working on some rap shit at that time when we was doing that film, and Tyra Banks was extremely big talk because she was still a hot supermodel. This was before she had all these talk shows and she was very humble. It was a good time because there was so much shit to learn from each other.
There was so much talent on that film. I loved “Boyz-N-The Hood” but to me “Higher Learning” was the best film John Singleton did.
Absolutely! I have to give big up to Michael Rapaport too because he played Remy who was the crazy Nazi kid and he did an amazing job. Everything about that film was dope. We all had a real good time with that film and it was one of the best movie sets I had the pleasure to be on. Plus the film itself had a good message about race relations and how people will fight each other but there is always certain people who can get along with each other.
What is in the future for Busta Rhymes and where do you see yourself in another five years from now?
Greatness! I’m going to have my hands in a whole lot of other shit outside of music and we are already in the process of doing those things right now. For the most part you will only see greatness. The last eighteen years I have been able to acquire a lot of great things and I just want to be able to continue to do that. I will continue to execute these championship plays in this game.
