Slim Thug
Interview by Scott Bejda
Continued from Murder Dog vol 16 #1

What kind of features do you have on “Boss of All Bosses”?
I got so many, but mainly I got a lot of Houston artists. I wanted to work with cats who I had a lot of love for their music and I got a lot of legends on here. I got cats like Scarface, UGK, Z-Ro, Slim ThugTrae, Mike Jones, Paul Wall and everybody who is affiliated out of Houston. I got a song with everybody and throughout the album I got some features with them. Last night I did a song with Ludacris and I did one with Plies. I got some serious heat on here.
It sounds like a classic Houston record!
Yeah, and that’s what I wanted it to be. I wanted to be a classic Houston record. I wanted it to be about Houston. At first when I started recording I wasn’t sure which direction it would go, but that’s what it end up turning out to be. I wanted to work with a lot of my other artists out of the city.
How did it feel to have all of those H-Town legends together on your album?
It was a real good look. There are so many talented cats on my project. If you are a true fan of Houston music then you got to get this one for your collection for sure. This is the real deal right here. I wanted to make sure that we went all out.
Houston to me is one of the best Rap cities. I have been a huge fan since the 80’s with the Geto Boys. What were some of your favorite classic H-Town records from the mid-90’s?
There are so many of them muthafuckas, man! I really was into Fat Pat “Ghetto Dreams” because that shit was just a crazy ass album. Also I was into that Lil’ Keke CD “Don’t Mess With Texas”. Both of those were two of my favorites back then. They had so many of them, and of course Scarface and all the Geto Boys shit too. The music game out here was never catered to making top chart records. It was always underground keepin’ it Gangsta type of shit and that’s why a lot of Houston artists haven’t been heard everywhere like they should be. The shit in Houston has always been for the streets and even the mainstream albums that came out of Houston had that feel to ’em.
Houston never sold out the fans. That means a lot to the people who were into the H-Town sound.
Real talk! That is one thing you could definitely say about Houston Rap, because we always catered to our hardcore fan base.
Aside from rappin’ are you doing any other business ventures like film or maybe even some real estate?
I usually do a lot of that, but I have been slowing down a lot lately with the recession coming through like it has been. There is no telling what the fuck it going to happen and how long shit is going to take to pick up so I have been chillin’ a lot on that shit. Me and my homeboys are going to open up this restaurant down town and see how that works out, but that’s about it right now. I’m just trying to get this music back in order and try to get my other artists off their feet.
What kind of food will be on the menu?
We are going with a soul food spot.
What about your group Boss Hog Outlawz?  What’s in them works for them?
We’re going to keep doing them. After my album drops we’re looking to drop J-Dogg’s album. They already got their shit finished and that’s what is next up to bat.
During your day to day life how much time do you spend in the lab?
Not really all that much. With me I really don’t work in the studio like that. When I write a rap I’m usually driving. I will be riding down the street and when something comes to my mind. I’ll say it in my iPhone in the voice recorder. J-Dogg and them will stay in the studio. I don’t live in that muthafucka. There will be months passed and I don’t go to the studio like that. When I do go to the studio I’ll do about 8 songs a day, because I’ve been writing so much shit on my iPhone. When I get there I just record a lot of shit. I don’t know what it is, I think I got A.D.D. because I hate to sit still. I just lay my tracks and get my ass out of that muthafucka.
What do you like to do in your off time?
I party! That’s what I do! Everybody know me and know I’m in the club every fuckin’ night or in the street doing shit. My and my homeboys are in the club and on the scene a lot just doing our shit. Besides that, I hoop every once in while. I do collect guns and we go to the gun range and shit. I got rifles, AK's, AR's and all kinds of shit, man. I just like them. I just love them and love to collect them.
You have a single out for this album?
The single is “I Run” and it’s getting a lot of good push. It is picking up everywhere, man. It’s hot! It’s taking off with the video and everything.
What kind of response are you getting from the album?
Cats are loving it and they know it’s the real Slim Thug on this album. They know it is hot! I liked “Already Platinum” but this is the one right here.
Are you hitting the road doing a lot of promo?
We’re setting up a tour with me and Paul Wall. We’re getting a lot of other artists on there too, but nothing to announce yet.
