C.O. Tha! Bad Black
Interview by Black Dog Bone
I’m excited about the “Fuck Tha Illuminati” compilation that you, Scott, and DMB releasing. I have never seen a compilation in this magnitude.
It is definitely legendary! It will be a real pinnacle for the careers of Scott, DMB, B-Dub, and myself and of course with a push behind the conglomerate like Murder Dog supporting us putting out there to get to the masses so it will be real gigantic.
When Scott told you he was doing this compilation how did you feel about i
t?When he it me with it I was game. Scott is a visionary and it was kind of like his baby because he brought it from a fetus up into a grown adult. When he told me about it I was with him 150% right behind him. I support Prezident Bejda with anything that he do. I love the man so much I made him the President of my company, Themolishun Enterpryze.
You and Scott is you have been like brothers for a real long time and I love that!
Definitely! There is not one thing that anybody could say bad about Scott Bejda to me to my face and walk away with their health intact. He has been with me through thick and thin when he could have gave up on me. Honestly if it wasn’t for him I wouldn’t have done a lot of stuff. I wouldn’t have been in Murder Dog if it wasn’t for Scott. He reached out and he went from my friend to my brother. It is beyond music now it is family oriented. I don’t even consider him a friend because calling him a friend is an understatement that is my brother! I thank Murder Dog because when I sent in my album “When I Hit the Bricks” back in 2002, Scott told me that you sent him a copy to review. I thank Murder Dog for me meeting Scott and I thank Scott for me being a part of Murder Dog over the years.
That is how you met Scott?
Yeah, back in 2002! I think at the time Lou Nutt and a couple other people were writing for you and if you would have sent the CD to anyone else I don’t think I would be as big as I am now with this music shit because everything happens for a reason. When you sent it to Scott you sent it to the right person, because he has been there ever since. You are talking 2002 and now it is 2011. This is family! I love that brother! Anything he needs form me he has it!
I told Scott he doesn’t even know how much he has shaped the music that is in the world right now. He played a major role in Murder Dog doing all these interviews with some of the biggest people who are the voice of the world right now!
Yeah he definitely is man! Scott is an innovator man! He is a great journalist!
You also have this great partner all the way from Germany who you and Scott work with. Tell me about DMB?
DMB is one of the coolest. I consider him a brother too. DMB jumped behind me when a lot of people didn’t think that the Bad Black didn’t have nothing in him. He put out my album. Through Prezident Bejda talking to DMB and putting it together we put out the album “Themi-God” to nice reviews. RBC heard it and they liked it and we did a digital deal with them.
RBC is the one who is pushing Tech N9ne who is the biggest of the biggest right now!
That’s beautiful! Tech N9ne and I became label mates through RBC and what people don’t know is that my album came out the same time that Tech’s came out, which was June 7th 2011. People were asking me “Tech N9ne is a big guy in the underground, are you afraid that you might get lost in the shuffle?” No I am not afraid of nothing because I will put my album out against anybody because everybody has their own set of fans. I am not one of those artists who is afraid to release his album the same time as a big artist. I don’t give a fuck, let’s go because that might help me out. It is beautiful! Much respect to Strange!
I always liked the Chicago sound because it is this real grimy dark sound and you got that.
I appreciate that Black Dog. One more thing to add to that is I am a vegetarian now! My whole diet is beautiful and I swear to you when I am writing songs I feel so free. People ask, “How can you write those raps when most people need marijuana or drink?” But I get a natural high. With my whole diet and mind frame I feel good. I am definitely looking out for my health. My mind works so good I will hand any rapper his ass on a silver platter. I am one of the best to do it, man!
I feel like the older you get and as the time passes by you are getting a deeper understanding. All of this really comes in your music!
Coming from Mississippi to Chicago back in ’89 and hooking up with Soundmaster-T, Delle Del, and of course JD Walker and just being around them guys and living in the street life. I went to prison for two years and it taught me a lot. When I came home JD Walker was one of the first people top pick me up and take me to dinner and put some money in my pocket. But my whole style originated from Mississippi with the down south flow along with the Chicago flow. I look at Mississippi as my mother because it gave birth to me and Chicago as my father because it raised me. I elevated even more from being in the city being around some of the grimiest cats slangin’ drugs, bustin guns, robbin people, and it taught me a lot. Like you said I am not one of these young cats but I will still hand these dudes their ass on a silver platter because cant none of them fuck with me. I am a Father and I just had another baby, a little girl. I am a Father of 9! I got 6 girls and 3 boys! My oldest child will be 18 this month and will go to college. I take this music shit seriously because this is how I feel my family and take care of my children. It put me in a place where I am and where I need to be going because I still have a long way to go man. I am gonna get there because patience is a virtue and I believe in that for real.
Your time will come! Right now you are living the real life and you are doing it and you got people like Scott and others behind you.
It is a blessing! Scott keeps me on my toes and he will hit me late and ask me if I am writing. That is what I love and that is why I made him the President of my company, because he definitely puts his foot in it. Even though I dropped an album in June I am already putting out another mixtape on October 31st called “God Love You I Don’t”. I am coming at any rapper in the game because I don’t take no shorts and I don’t fear nothing. I don’t have a problem, it’s just to show that here is a kid from Mississippi who lives in Chicago and have been doing it just as long as most of them and I still have the drive and intensity to show these cats what I can do. That’s all it is ain’t no hatred.
Who is on the “Themi-God”
Of course you got DMB, Soundmaster-T, Jah-Rista, K.Y.M., Sassalino, Malachi, K-Eezy, Hen-A-Cee, Kingpin Skinny Pimp, AK of Do Or Die, Coldhard, Felony of Public Announcement, Yukmouth, Kokane, and the homie X-Raided. Free X-Raided, Free Belo, and Free F.M. 3000.
Who does most of your production?
The production is still done by the legendary Soundmaster-T. I have been with him since 1989. I also got some tracks from my homeboy B-Dub from Germany who I call “B-Dub The Great”. He’s definitely somebody to look out for. I also of course did some stuff with Waxmaster and Filthy Rich of Blocc Star did a track for me on the “Themi-God” called “Can U Buy That” with X-Raided and DMB. The production is still done by Soundmaster-T. but there will be a mixture of producers on the mixtape.
What about the “Themi-God” album? Did the majority of it get done at the studio with Soundmaster-T?
We sent off the album to get mixed and mastered in Germany by Burger Records and like I said B-Dub did a couple tracks, Waxmaster did a couple tracks, and Filthy Rich did one track. I would say about 90% of the album was done by Soundmaster-T.
I met Soundmaster-T and went to his studio. I met all the artists from Chicago and we did a big article on Chicago Rap. The people who helped me to get it going were JD Walker and his partner.
I remember. I was in the penitentiary when you came to Chicago. JD Walker showed you around and took you to the hood and everything.
Soundmaster-T played a big role in shaping the Chicago sound.
Yeah definitely, like the drums that you loved back when I was signed to Blood Rush with “Snitchezz”. That song was on “The Best of the Best” compilation and that was from Soundmaster-T. People need to realize his talent. To me that is the Dr. Dre of Chicago. He deserves his shot also. A lot of new cats are coming out and people are looking at the new guys but don’t write off the old guys. I consider myself one of the old guys because I have been doing it the longest and I know this game. This game is a treacherous ass game. I look at the rap game as a female with Chlamydia, because you can fuck with her but you better have a damn condom on because as soon as you go in her pussy raw you gonna get burnt! Rap is a bitch with an STD man! I still been fuckin with her but she ain’t burnt me yet because I know how to do it. I think she has been waiting for me to try to fuck her raw so she can burn, but she will never burn me. I got my crazy theories and analogies but that is how I look at it. So hopefully if I ain’t fuckin her maybe I can treat her right and give some penicillin and get rid of that bacteria.
What else are you working on?
The first thing is the new mixtape “God Love You I Don’t” which is coming out on Halloween and the artwork is done by Siccx out of the Bay Area. All I can say is the music on there is smashing. The artwork by Siccx is gonna smash too! It will be for free at Datpiff and Livemixtapes. Then at the top of the year around Spring I will drop my next album called “Bow Your Heads”. That’s gonna be a pinnacle because I am not taking any shorts, no jokes, no nothing, I’m not playing with these muthafuckaz, Black Dog. We don’t stop! We are about to shoot another video from the “Themi-God” album because we are still pushing that on iTunes, Amazon and all over the net. With “Bow Your Heads” we will be looking at a couple distributors because a couple of people have been talking to us right now. There might be some things going on with Strange Music. I’m not gonna speak too much on it right now. They just signed Young Bleed to “Strange Lane” which is a subsidiary of Strange Music. Travis and Tech are real good people. Who knows, if everything goes well there is still an option to do something with Burger Records too. Even if we don’t re-sign with Burger Records they will always be a part of the family. Burger Records is the best label I ever signed with because they gave me my first shot. If it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t be doing this right now. Even if I don’t sign with Burger I still got production from B-dub and can still get a verse from DMB. The “Fuck Tha Illuminati” compilation is coming out first and we are putting that out around the top of October and that is gonna be a beast! We got about 20-30 countries on there. We got Eazy-E’s son on there, people from the Bay, Egypt, Germany, Japan, you name it.
I am telling you right now that compilation is gonna unite the people and it will open up a lot of doors!
Yes, a lot of doors. We are grizzlies we don’t step on people’s toes; we try to step on people’s necks. Fuck tha! Illuminati and if they don’t like it fuck ’em. We are tired of this monopolized game! A lot of people don’t speak on it, but I am gonna speak on it in the greatest magazine. A lot of these muthafuckin rappers sell their souls to get this music done. I have been rappin literally Black Dog since 1984. The reason I haven’t got to where I should be is because I haven’t sold my soul. I don’t fuck with no bullshit. These rappers taking it up the ass just to get a fuckin deal for what? You become a one hit wonder after getting fucked by a CEO and you still don’t become shit after that. So you want to sell your manhood just to get a million dollars? That’s what your asshole is worth? We don’t do that around here. That is why C.O. don’t have a big deal because I refuse to bow down. It ain’t because I don’t have the hits. I was on one of the biggest compilations to come out around 2004 which was “The Best of the Best” and I was on there with T.I., Haystak, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony and my song “Snitchezzz” was number 3 and you mean to tell me that labels didn’t hear that? You know they heard it! They know they can’t get C.O. Tha! Bad Black to sell his soul because my shit ain’t for sale. The only I got for sale around this muthafucka is bullets. These rappers getting fucked with all this illuminati shit and don’t speak on it. People might say “This dude has been rappin’ since ’84 and came to Chicago in ‘89” what happened? I don’t sell my soul! Ain’t nobody fuckin; with me!
Believe me your time is here, it is gonna happen!
I’m gonna get one way or another and it won’t be because I am bending over fuckin these A&R’s or letting them fuck me. The Puffys getting fucked and whoever else, I’m not doing it. I’m not kissing muthafuckaz in the mouth bumpin’ mustaches. These muthafuckaz behind closed doors tossin’ niggaz salad like romaine and Caesar. We don’t do that shit around here. That is why I fuck with Murder Dog because we murder dogs. We keep it hood street and gutter.
Is there anything else?
