Yukmouth
Interview By Keita
Jones
Continued from Murder
Dog Vol.15 #2
You have a track record
for being the rapper featured on a lot of Bay Area albums but never having a
lot of Bay Area artists on your album. What prompted the change of approach on
this album?
We all unifying in the
Bay and hoppin on each other’s shit. It all started from the “Too $hort Loves
the Bay” album. He got a lot of Bay niggas fuckin with each other. A lot of
niggas had beef and wasn’t fuckin with each other and we came together from
that one compilation and we continued doing music. I was able to get The Team,
Delinquents, Beeda Weeda, Kafani, Souls of Mischief. It was perfect, it brought
the whole Bay together so I’m just keeping the movement going. And I went back
to Bay. I was in LA livin my life and I had to go home and come back to my
roots, because I was getting accustomed to all this Hollywood fake ass shit,
everybody fakin on each other. I had to go back home to the real and soak up
the game like a sponge. All the Bay niggas was home when I did the album.
Who are the current
members in the Regime?
We got Tech N9ne,
Gonzoe, Kenny Kingpin (Poppa LQ), Monstah Ganjah, Ampichino, Chino Nino, Young
Hyfe, Diesel Don, Gov-Matic, Rah Mean, Lee Majors, Dru Down, Teflon from Canada
and Dorasel from down South, a click of niggas.
When can we expect the
Regime Religion album and UGA 3 to come out?
We about to do this
shit. It’s called “Regime Life The Dragon Gang Album”, so we gonna get
together. It’s gonna be out the end of this summer. UGA 3 will be out this
spring. We editing it right now getting it together. For the DVD I'm gonna take
them where they never been. I'm gonna go over seas again to Germany, Amsterdam
in the Red Light District, Australia, Alaska. I’m going around on the outside
of the United States showing niggas I really do get my passport stamped. Also I
got footage of Anna Nicole Smith before she passed, hella footage of Mac Dre.
Hella events too, the All Star game, BET Awards, Source Awards, the Porno
Conventions all of that with interviews from all the hot artists. This one
gonna be the best one.
This isn’t “United
Ghettos of America”, this is really “United Ghettos of the Globe”?
Yeah, we twisted this
muthafucka because a lot of niggas been bitin my shit. I ain’t gonna say who,
but I’ve been noticing a lot of niggas DVD’s been about them traveling and
being at shit just like my DVD’s. When niggas initially did they DVD’s it was
about them but now niggas wanna travel state to state and be at events like me
so I had to step it up like, “aright nigga, get ya passport stamped and let’s
see what you can do overseas,” because I’m known everywhere, not just the
States
I have to say I was
representing with UGA Volume one because when I was living in LA I used to make
people sit and watch that segment “The Thizzelle Dance” and then do the dance.
Anyone in LA who learned to get stupid learned it from me and that video.
Actually between UGA and
Treal TV Volume 1 we started the hyphy shit before the hyphy shit really
started. That was the “pre-hyphy movement” and 40 and Federation came with it
and kept it going. But we (Yukmouth and Mac Dre) was the first niggas to put it
on the map with the DVD’s and the dances showing niggas how we really did it.
Thizz in Peace to my nigga Mac Dre. He was the nigga who really kick started
the hyphy movement because as much as E-40 raps and the Federation and The Team
raps… Dre had the whole image and everything that everybody was copying from
the stunna shades, the Thizz face, the dance. Everybody emulated not just what
the nigga was saying but how he dressed. So when you hear other niggas saying
“we started the hyphy” they was dressing normal when Dre was wearing the stunna
shades. He was wearing the shades before niggas started calling them stunna shades,
ya feel me. He was doing that shit based on some stupid shit, been getting
dumb. He started the hyphy to me because I watched it on UGA Volume 1 and Treal
TV Volume 1. We started the shit and it was on from there. I named that nigga
Thizzelle Washington and then he came up with Pill Clinton and now everybody
else wants a code name. So at the end of the day, me Dre kicked off the hyphy
and niggas don’t get credit for it. People outside the Bay think 40 kicked it
off or Keak or the Federation. It was Mac Dre straight up because everybody
Thizz dance and Thizz face. He’s the godfather of the shit.
That makes sense
because in LA we called it Thizz Dance before we heard the term “getting
stupid”.
Straight up, that’s
Thizz Entertainment. 40 never did the Thizz dance, that’s my nigga though, I
never did the Thizz dance. But now everybody did it. He kicked it off and 40
went global with it and brought it to everybody. 40 took it around the globe to
where everybody know about it, he took it to another level and had niggas in
Atlanta ghostriding and shit. Props to 40 and Keak because they both made that
song.
How did you end up
hookin up with Killa Klump?
My nigga at Rah
Records. We been doing a lot of projects together and Killa Klump as an artist
so we hooked up. But I met Killa through 3x Krazy, years ago before I even
started doin the mixtapes with him. And when I did the mixtape with him we did
the little video (“Neck Straight”) it had the white-t’s and Bapes and the shit
was phenomenal, it had hella hits. That nigga Killa Klump is a beast. For a
white dude he’s a monster, not on no Eminem shit but he’s a monster. He rappin
on some real street thug shit.
The “Neck Straight”
video was a real popular video on Youtube and myspace. Did you expect it to be
that big?
Hell naw? I didn’t
think it would be that fly. I didn’t know it would be that hot, it came out hot
as hell. For the budget that used to put that together too. We shot that shit
for a couple thousand and had the fake police cars and the outfits and locations
and the comic book effects for a couple thousand dollars, we won, definitely.
It came out hella hot.
When is the website
going to be back up?
The website should be
back up soon. We have a couple more changes we need to do, to make it more hot.
I'm gonna let people see my face and shit.
What’s the difference
between Godzilla Entertainment and Smoke-A-Lot Records?
Godzilla was basically
for the mixtapes and the DVD’s and shit. Smoke-A-Lot is for the albums and the
artists. And the clothing line is Godzilla. It’s two different entities under
one umbrella
What’s the status on
the next Thug Lordz album?
It should be coming out
by the summer. Me and Bo putting the last finishing touches on it and getting a
couple more features on it but right now the whole album is just me and Bo
going crazy. It’s Thug Lordz Thug Money real big going crazy
So Spice-1 is not going
to play a bigger role in this one?
You know the tragic
thing happened with Spice, he’s still recovering but hopefully we can get him
on the album if not the whole album.
How do you feel about
the state of Oakland rap right now?
It’s cranking. A lot of
young niggas is coming out the Bay, putting out the hyphy movement and riding
that wave, the hyphy train and that’s what’s poppin right now. It’s shedding
light to the Bay, it’s in and it’s making a lot of muthafuckas wanting to fuck
with the Bay. I’m definitely loving what’s going on right now. It reminds of
the 90’s when everyone was one. I love it
When is the Luniz album
coming out?
Never, ever, ever,
ever. Naw I'm gonna keep it one hundred, I don’t fuck with Num, Num don’t fuck
with me. That’s known, everybody in the Bay Area know we don’t fuck with each
other. Until then, I’m Yukmouth. We got nice deal, I’ll do it for the fans, but
until then I’m good.
What’s the deal with
Tia Sweets and the Regime?
I had her on my DVD Eye
Candy. She was part of the team and got tatted up. Mutha fuckas in the Regime
initiated her, she was part of the movement, blood in, blood out. It was a good
look for her. Once she got that tat, her porn status went. She was an unknown
porn star, she did 5 movies before she got tatted. She’s done 100 movies since
then. Now that the DVD is out every nigga wanna have her in they DVD or mixtape
and shit, so I know she lovin it. It boosted her shit and it’s good promotion
for her. Just know that ain’t my girl, she just part of the movement. Everybody
see her in the porno with the tat and be like “Yuk girl getting fucked!” Noooo
that’s not my bitch she’s just part of the movement. |
